AboutGlykart MG2 Tablet is a combination of Glimepiride 2mg and Metformin 500mg used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when dual therapy is required.Usage Instructions: Take once or twice daily with meals, or as directed by your physician. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Take at consistent times daily. Individualize dose based on glycemic response and tolerability.Benefits: Provides superior glycemic control compared to monotherapy, significantly lowers fasting and post-meal blood glucose, reduces HbA1c by 1.5-2.5%, improves insulin sensitivity and secretion, reduces risk of diabetes complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy), supports weight management.How it Works: Glimepiride binds to SUR1 receptor on pancreatic beta-cell K+ channels, causing depolarization, calcium influx, and insulin release. Metformin activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), inhibiting gluconeogenesis, enhancing glucose uptake in muscles, and reducing intestinal glucose absorption.Side Effects: Common: hypoglycemia (especially with missed meals or excessive exercise), gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain), metallic taste, headache, dizziness, weight gain (glimepiride), vitamin B12 deficiency. Serious: severe/prolonged hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis (very rare), hepatotoxicity, hemolysis in G6PD deficiency, thrombocytopenia.Safety Advice: Educate on hypoglycemia recognition and management. Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly. Assess renal function before initiation and periodically. Avoid in eGFR <30 mL/min. Limit alcohol intake. Supplement vitamin B12 if deficient. Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes, DKA, severe renal/hepatic impairment, or acute metabolic stress. Temporarily discontinue before iodinated contrast procedures.Storage: Store below 25°C.
