AboutLanoxin Tablet contains digoxin (0.25 mg), a cardiac glycoside used to treat heart failure and certain heart rhythm disorders (atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter). It strengthens heart muscle contractions and helps control heart rate, improving cardiac output and reducing symptoms of heart failure.Usage InstructionsTake exactly as prescribed by your cardiologist, usually once daily. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with water. Do not stop or change dose without consulting your doctor. Regular monitoring of digoxin blood levels, kidney function, and electrolytes is essential.Benefits- Strengthens heart muscle contractions- Improves symptoms of heart failure- Controls heart rate in atrial fibrillation- Reduces hospitalizations in heart failure- Improves exercise tolerance- Long-established, well-studied medicationHow it WorksDigoxin inhibits sodium-potassium ATPase pump in heart muscle cells, increasing intracellular calcium, which enhances myocardial contractility (stronger heart contractions). It also slows electrical conduction through the AV node, controlling heart rate in atrial fibrillation.Side EffectsCommon: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, headache, visual disturbances (yellow-green vision). Serious: Digoxin toxicity (confusion, irregular heartbeat, severe nausea/vomiting, vision changes), bradycardia, heart block, arrhythmias. Toxicity risk increased with low potassium, low magnesium, or kidney impairment.Safety Advice- Prescription required - use only under cardiologist supervision- Regular blood level monitoring essential (narrow therapeutic index)- Inform doctor of kidney disease, thyroid problems, or electrolyte imbalances- Maintain adequate potassium and magnesium levels- Many drug interactions (diuretics, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, antibiotics, etc.)- Report signs of toxicity immediately (nausea, vomiting, vision changes, irregular heartbeat)- Not for use in certain heart conditions (ventricular fibrillation, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy)StorageStore below 25°C in a dry place protected from light and moisture.
