Title
MI 100mg Itraconazole 10 Capsules
Prescription drug
About
MI 100mg Capsule is a prescription antifungal medicine containing Itraconazole (100mg), belonging to the triazole class of antifungals. It is used to treat a wide range of fungal infections including ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, fungal nail infections (onychomycosis), oral and vaginal candidiasis (thrush), and systemic infections caused by Aspergillus, Histoplasma, and Cryptococcus species.
Usage Instructions
Take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Take with food (immediately after a meal) to improve absorption. Take at evenly spaced intervals and complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within 2 hours of taking this medicine.
Benefits
Effectively treats fungal infections of skin, nails, mouth, throat, and vagina
Treats serious systemic and opportunistic fungal infections
Kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane
Broad-spectrum antifungal coverage against multiple fungal species
How It Works
Itraconazole inhibits the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14?-demethylase, which is essential for the production of ergosterol — the primary structural component of fungal cell membranes. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes weak and permeable, causing vital cellular contents to leak out, ultimately killing the fungus and clearing the infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, headache, diarrhoea, stomach pain, tiredness, back pain, cough, sore throat, and vomiting. Less commonly, liver enzyme elevations may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs of liver problems such as persistent nausea, jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes), or dark urine.
Safety Advice
Not recommended in patients with heart failure due to risk of serious adverse effects.
Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment as it impairs drug absorption.
Avoid alcohol as it increases the risk of liver problems.
Use effective contraception during treatment and for 2 months after stopping — not safe in pregnancy.
Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers as the drug passes into breast milk.
Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease — dose adjustment may be needed.
May interact with many drugs including statins, anticoagulants, and anticonvulsants — inform your doctor of all medications.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
