Prescription drug
Composition
: Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12) 1500 mcg per ml (approximate; confirm exact strength on pack)
About:
Safnerv PFS Injection is a pre‑filled syringe containing methylcobalamin (vitamin B12), used for treating vitamin B12 deficiency and associated neuropathies such as diabetic neuropathy and peripheral nerve disorders. It helps restore B12 levels and supports nerve function and red blood cell production.
Usage Instructions The injection is administered intramuscularly or intravenously by a healthcare professional; do not self‑inject unless properly trained. The dose and frequency are individualised based on deficiency severity and clinical response as decided by the doctor.
Benefits Improves symptoms like numbness, tingling, burning sensations and weakness caused by B12 deficiency. Supports normal red blood cell formation and may help correct certain megaloblastic anaemias.
How it Works Methylcobalamin participates in myelin sheath synthesis and neuronal protein production, promoting nerve repair and conduction. It also acts as a cofactor in folate metabolism and DNA synthesis, essential for normal blood cell production.
Side Effects Possible side effects include injection‑site pain, redness, mild rash or gastrointestinal upset. Serious reactions such as severe allergy, breathing difficulty or swelling are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Safety Advice Use with caution in patients with Leber’s disease or suspected optic nerve atrophy. Inform the doctor about all medications and medical conditions; periodic monitoring of B12 levels and haematological parameters may be required.
Storage Store in original pack below 25–30°C, protected from light; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
