Telpres 40mg 15 Tablets

Telpres 40mg 15 Tablets

Prescription drug
Manufacturer / Marketer : ABBOTT INDIA LTD
Composition : Telmisartan 40mg
About
Telpres 40mg Tablet is a prescription antihypertensive medicine containing Telmisartan (40mg), an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke in patients with established cardiovascular disease or high-risk conditions. It helps maintain blood pressure within a healthy range when taken regularly with or without other medicines.

Usage Instructions
Take as prescribed by your doctor — typically once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take at the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

Benefits
Effectively lowers and controls high blood pressure (hypertension)
Reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke in high-risk adults
Relaxes and widens blood vessels for improved blood flow
May be prescribed alongside diuretics for enhanced blood pressure control
Well-tolerated with a once-daily dosing regimen

How It Works
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors, preventing the hormone angiotensin II from binding to blood vessel walls. Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to narrow (vasoconstriction) and raises blood pressure. By blocking this action, Telmisartan causes blood vessels to relax and widen, reducing peripheral resistance and lowering blood pressure.

Side Effects
Common side effects include diarrhoea, sinus infection (sinusitis), and back pain. Less common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, urinary tract infection, and elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia). Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of angioedema (swelling of face, lips, throat, or tongue).

Safety Advice
Not recommended during pregnancy (especially 2nd and 3rd trimesters) — may harm the developing foetus.
Not recommended for breastfeeding women or children.
Avoid potassium-rich foods and potassium supplements during treatment — may cause hyperkalemia.
This medicine may cause dizziness — avoid driving until you know how it affects you.
Avoid alcohol as it may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and cause excessive dizziness.
Inform your doctor of all medications, particularly NSAIDs, diuretics, or other blood pressure medicines.

Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
