Prescription drug
Manufacturer / Marketer : ABBOTT INDIA LTD
About
Thyronorm 200mcg Tablet is a prescription thyroid hormone replacement medicine manufactured by Abbott India Ltd. It contains Thyroxine Sodium (Levothyroxine) 200mcg — a higher-dose synthetic form of thyroid hormone T4. It is prescribed for patients requiring larger doses, including cases of severe hypothyroidism, TSH suppression therapy in thyroid cancer, and post-thyroidectomy patients needing complete hormone replacement. As with all Thyronorm doses, it requires lifelong use in most patients.

Usage Instructions
Take one tablet daily on an empty stomach, at least 30–60 minutes before breakfast, as directed by your doctor. Swallow whole with a glass of water — do not crush or chew. Take at the same time each day without fail. Regular TSH blood tests are mandatory to monitor adequacy of dosing and adjust as needed.

Benefits
Restores thyroid hormone levels in moderate to severe hypothyroidism
Effectively suppresses TSH in thyroid cancer management (TSH suppression therapy)
Provides complete hormone replacement after total thyroidectomy
Relieves all symptoms of hypothyroidism — fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, depression, and dry skin
Supports normal metabolism, cardiac function, and neurological health

How It Works
Levothyroxine (T4) at 200mcg provides a higher replacement dose for patients with greater hormone deficiency. After oral absorption, T4 is converted peripherally to the active T3 form, which then binds to nuclear thyroid hormone receptors in all tissues to regulate metabolism, protein synthesis, and energy balance. At higher doses, it also suppresses pituitary TSH secretion, which is therapeutically useful in thyroid cancer management.

Side Effects
At the correct dose, side effects are minimal. Signs of over-replacement include heart palpitations, rapid or irregular heartbeat, anxiety, diarrhoea, tremors, increased sweating, heat intolerance, insomnia, weight loss, and increased appetite. Prolonged over-replacement can affect bone density. Report any unusual cardiac symptoms to your doctor immediately.

Safety Advice
Do not take calcium, iron supplements, or antacids within 4 hours of Thyronorm as they impair absorption.
Safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding — dose may need to be increased by 25–50% during pregnancy under doctor guidance.
Regular TSH monitoring every 6–8 weeks initially, then every 6–12 months once stable.
Inform your doctor about heart disease, diabetes, adrenal conditions, or osteoporosis.
Do not adjust the dose on your own — over-replacement can cause serious cardiac and bone effects.
Some medications (anticonvulsants, antacids, rifampicin) may reduce Thyronorm levels.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
